WHENIWASFIVEYEARSOLD, my mom told me that other people were always trying to do voodoo on me. I was very afraid of it. When my mom saw they were trying to take my life away, we left the house and moved to a different place close to a river. Some days later, my mom started looking for a job but she always left me alone at the house. Each time she left me I would cry. Later on she found a job and I stayed at my sister’s house when she went to work. She used to sleep at the job. When she came tovisit she gave mysistersome money for food. When the money was gone I would be hungry for many days. I ended up leaving because I didn’t have someone to keep an eye on me. I went out to the streets to ask for spare change. I was miserable. I slept in the streets and I almost got killed when I was six years-old. Every day the other kids in the streets made me fight and I always got caught. I was always dirty with no water to take a shower because you have to pay to get some water. That’s when my mom in 2005 took me to an orphanage at age seven. I was a little bit sad. But now I was getting a good life, eating well, taking a shower, sleeping very well, going to school and learning to read. I was thinking ROLANDO EVERY DAY THE OTHER KIDS IN THE STREETS MADE ME FIGHT AND I ALWAYS GOT CAUGHT.” “ www.heartenhaiti.org differently. I know if I didn’t have King’s Garden, I would not have the life I have right now. My life has changed. When I was at the orphanage, I saw a lot of white people visiting. They loved me and I loved them too. Even today I still love them and I am still thinking about what they’ve done for me. God will always help you and bless you and I will never forget Dr. Morquette and what he did for my life.
