DAFNEY I WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 4, 1992. I have no mom and no dad. After my mom passed there was a lady I used to call my aunt that I went to live with. She took me to the King’s orphanage. I stayed eight or nine years at the orphanage. In 2010 after I turned eighteen, I left the orphanage and went back to live with my aunt. After some days she told me she is not my aunt, that she was my mom’s friend. She told me with kindness if I want to stay with her I can, or if I want to go somewhere else I can. After a while, I went to live with someone else because I was trying to find my family. Some days later, that person I was staying with wanted me to leave and gave me some money to go to Petite Goave. I have never been there and didn’t even know how to find the bus station. She just thought I didn’t want to go. Two or three days later, she kicked me out. I met a lady and I explained to her what happened to me and she gave me a place to stay. After three months, she started to change and she put me in a different place to sleep which when it is raining it leaks on me and bugs fall on me. Every day she was talking bad about me so I would leave. I went to talk to a lady who was a translator at the King’s orphanage. She wanted me to go live with her at her place, but with a condition; I need to wash her clothes and help out. I would have to go to school in the afternoon. I wanted to call someone who is older than me so I called Sindy and Fleurette. I told them the conditions that the lady gave me to live with her and they said it is not a good condition because it is like slavery. Fleurette told me her aunt lives in a tent and asked me if I would like to go live with her and I told her yes. I went to live with her aunt and Fleurette gave me a warm welcome. Months later, the same story again, everything started changing and Fleurette’s aunt kicked me out. After trying many other places, I finally called Sindy and told her I am coming over but I did not tell her if I am going to live with her. Sindy was at school so she told me to just go to the house since there will be people there. When Sindy got home from school she was surprised to see me. She told me that when she was in class she heard someone call her name and it sounded like someone was in danger. She asked all the students if they called hername and theysaid no and then she started panicking and it is when she got home she found out it was me who needed her help. After that I realized we can be apart from each other but it seems like we are connected. I have been living with Sindy since November and her mom protects me as if I was her own daughter. I love going to church with Sindy every Sunday. The places I lived before I didn’t go to church but God was always with me and protected me. Thank you, thank you, to all of you who help me. Thank you to Dr. Junie and Dr. Morquette and thank you to the King’s Garden sponsors. www.heartenhaiti.org
